AVERY’S WAY . . .
SEAN AVERY VIDEO BELOW WHICH IS MORE THAN A LITTLE BIT INTERESTING
Sean Avery went from average OHL player with very little more than average skill and a big mouth to full time NHL player. For that you must 100% give him full marks for as a player in the NHL that attracted the type of attention he did and still does it’s remarkable.
You see Avery has a past in Canada that includes stops in the OHL in Kingston after starting with the Owen Sound OHL franchise. What you may not know is most of his teammates back then thought he was already somewhat of an idiot. I can tell you that almost every player that played against him including every single player I represented wanted to take his head off.
On top of Avery being a mouth piece constantly trying to get into players heads in the OHL, he also stopped at nothing to drive his coaches and linemates nuts. He just overall was the type of kid and player that you could only take so much of then you needed to be away from him.
For all of Avery’s idiocy there is another side of him that would shock people like when he started to make some real money as a player in the NHL he surprisingly bought his former OHL team in Owen Sound a new stereo for the dressing room and not a cheap one either. Avery would make you want to kill him one minute and the next think wow he is not that much of a goof after all.
Avery who is 28 yrs old has been afforded the chance to resurrect his career thanks to Rangers GM Glen Sather. All of this after he drove his teammates nuts much the same as he did in Junior in Dallas after signing a huge contract this summer. Avery has Sather to thank for the second chance and you can absolutely tell that he knows it moving forward. Avery has not changed all that much you can bet your ass on that, but he is towing the Sather line thanks to the fact he has had his ass scared to death that his career was over.
I personally give Sather a hard time and rightly so for his mismanagement of the Rangers since his arrival years ago. But I will be the first one to say Sather deserves a lot of credit for standing up to the NHL who lets face it would rather Avery go away. But Sather has brought the kid back to the NHL and you know what ? Avery does deserve the chance he is getting whether you love or hate him.
Avery has an ability on the ice that he really didn’t even have in Junior, he is a better player today than he ever was in Junior and this I tell you because I watched him in Junior and basically thought he was mostly a phony that was too busy beaking off then playing the game. Now if you understand the game you see that Avery can play the game at a high level and his skills have either improved in the NHL or were always there but he was too busy being a goof to show them.
Avery would have you believe that he was ready to leave the NHL for a job at vogue or some bullshit like that when the reality is playing in the NHL has always been his trump card so to speak. Without the fame of playing in the NHL who is Sean Avery ? Exactly no one except a little sawed off 5″9 guy that talks too much and is full of himself. Avery needs the fame of the NHL and I’m one of those people that thinks in a weird sort of way that the NHL needs him too. The NHL needs characters like Avery in the game breathing some life into an otherwise cast of characters that basically say the same thing night after night.
Avery will keep his mouth shut as per Sather’s orders which are so obviously in place in New York at the moment. Avery has got to get his game back to where the new coach has trust in him as a player first. Then Avery can start to go back to the character he was which got him to the NHL in the first place, but make no mistake he has to be a player first again or this coach will hate him.
Avery has played in 403 NHL games and believe me that’s 403 more than most hockey people would have guessed back in Junior that’s for sure. Avery has put up 68 goals 109 assists good for 177 points combined with 1146 penalty minutes even though most of them were 10 minute misconducts for beaking at refs or opposing players.

Avery does say things like “I use to play with Dolls as a kid and I might quit the NHL to work at Vogue”
But he is full of crap and wants what he has (NHL) and everything that comes with it. The fame, the money in the bank if nothing else so that he can dress unlike most NHL players like a high end fashion model.
I’m sure Avery does like fashion now that he has developed an interest and the money to buy whatever it is he wants. But Avery has come to understand what got him all of this fame in the first place and guess what that was hockey and his ability to drive other players crazy-nuts on the ice and sometimes his own teammates along with it.
Avery can play the game it really is that simple, I haven’t changed my mind about the kid one single bit.
I still wouldn’t sit down and have a beer with him but I believe in second chances and DO NOT believe in hockey politics.
Like all those phony hockey people that didn’t want Avery to get a second chance in the NHL, like none of them ever made a mistake in their lives ! Give me a break !
